Celsius vs Fahrenheit

The Celsius and Fahrenheit scales define their zero points and degree increments differently. Celsius sets 0°C at the freezing point of water and 100°C at the boiling point. Fahrenheit sets the freezing point of water at 32°F and the boiling point at 212°F.

This means there are 180 degrees Fahrenheit between freezing and boiling water, compared to 100 degrees Celsius. Therefore, an increase of 1°C is equivalent to an increase of 1.8°F (or 9/5 °F).

The two scales intersect at -40 degrees, meaning -40°C is exactly the same temperature as -40°F.
